You might be wondering why I rebranded the logos from the respective Cashman Law Firm, PLLC and TorrentLawyer sites.
The reason was for clarity.
Cashman Law Firm, PLLC has always been my law firm. This is where we represent clients, where we write legal articles explaining the law, and it functions as the website for our law firm.
TorrentLawyer has always been our publishing platform. It is here where we write articles explaining legal concepts, strategies, and where we keep you informed of where the copyright lawsuits are headed.
This is also where I’ve written articles which have poked and nudged; where I have criticized attorney marketing methods and strategies; where I have called out settlement factories for their deceptive tactics, and where I have explained concepts that were too deep and complicated for a law firm to explain.
Personally, TorrentLawyer is where I teach. This is where I educate. This is where I go deep into untested areas of law, and I tell you exactly what I am thinking. I’ve covered some fascinating topics on this site, and I am excited to continue doing so.
Robert Z. Cashman, This is me. I am the founder of the Cashman Law Firm, PLLC, the author of each of the 200+ articles on TorrentLawyer, and when you retain our law firm, I am the one who represents you in your lawsuit.

It is also this site where I placed my pre-law firm articles from my earlier years of being an attorney.]

The Blue Logo is Cashman Law Firm, PLLC
The Earth (blue) logo to me represents the Cashman Law Firm, PLLC. It is where you will retain me to represent you in your lawsuit. It is blue, which symbolizes water, life, and sustenance. It also represents our law practice, which can provide you comfort, stability, a strong foundation, and a home.
In a law firm, like water, things get mixed together.
Water adapts. Water serves. Water gives life. Water takes the shape of whatever contains it.
Whenever anyone comes into my Cashman Law Firm, I see it as if they have been invited into our home. It is here where I connect with them, where I learn about what I can do for them, and we become unified in purpose (like water, we stick together), and I serve them however I can.
The Red Logo is TorrentLawyer
The Mars (red) logo represents TorrentLawyer. It is where I will address topics that are heated, where I aim to explore the unknown, where I challenge both your and my thought processes, and I educate.
Mars is red, which symbolizes fire, which separates the good parts from the bad. Fire also represents the truth, which elevates the good, and leaves the waste as ash and dust.
In TorrentLawyer, I separate out concepts; I draw distinctions; I sort. There is right and wrong in my articles, and I share hard opinions and reality-based philosophies. Sometimes my articles burn, sometimes they teach, always they elevate your knowledge so that you can rise to whatever challenge you are facing.
Known as the “Red” Planet, Mars is often referred to as the planet of war. But “all out war” often leaves bodies on both sides, so nuanced and risk-based approach — a middle-ground — helps prevent irreparable harm to both sides. It is with TorrentLawyer that we fight this war — not with guns, knives, or confrontations, but with sound arguments that leave both sides whole.
Through TorrentLawyer, I may respectfully prepare a memorandum challenging existing precendent, or I might deep-dive into a court’s reasoning, conducting chambers to better understand a procedural issue. I may also visit a court to attend a hearing in a case in which I am unfamiliar with, and I will speak to the parties involved to ascertain their strategies (too often, to learn that what dockets look like on paper often amounts to an empty courtroom, a judge cracking jokes, and the staff making comments about their thoughts about the lawsuit).
It was also here that I have been critical of the mass-lawsuit copyright business model, and I have questioned developing trends in copyright litigation. I also try to call things as they are in my articles, and I have picked up the phone and called out my own peers (respectfully, privately) when they asserted a strategy or sold a service that might have unintended consequences. And like fire, I have brought things to light when an attorney does something that will harm accused defendants.
It is also at TorrentLawyer where I teach strategies, and I peer around the corner to see what future lawsuits might be coming around the corner using technologies that are not yet showing up in our current lawsuits.
Obviously the goal of TorrentLawyer is to teach, and to elevate your knowledge, but it is also at TorrentLawyer where I will openly call my own strategy a failure, and I will leave it as dust and ash for you to search through, many years later.
I don’t delete old ideas simply because they’ve become outdated. I leave them here so you can see how the law evolved—and how my own thinking evolved with it. Sometimes an old strategy becomes obsolete. Sometimes it becomes the foundation for a better one. Either way, I think there is value in preserving the history.
Why Two Planets?
I wanted two symbols that were obviously related, but impossible to confuse one for the other. Two planets orbiting the same sun to me seemed like a fitting metaphor. Like our law firm, they share the same creator, the same mission, and often the same subject matter, but each planet serves a different purpose.
This was a difficulty I faced when trying to explain why I have two websites that link to each other. The structure was intentional.

Why You Also Need Mars (TorrentLawyer)
Once the immediate legal problem is solved, many people still want to understand why these lawsuits happened, and what would have happened with another approach.
Your lawsuit might be over, but too often, the questions usually aren’t. Emotionally, you might still need answers. Others haven’t even begun to think about what to do about a notice they received in the mail implicating them of infringing someone’s copyrights.
This is where TorrentLawyer comes in.
Here I explore legal strategies, emerging trends, I analyze how technology changes the evidence, we discuss copyright litigation trends, judicial decisions, and ideas that may not yet have clear answers. We also analyze the risks of different ways to respond to the lawsuit to ‘balance the scales’ in an uneven playing field.
Sometimes I challenge conventional thinking. Sometimes I change my own mind. Sometimes I’ll think through a strategy, and then dump it at the end of the article, concluding that the possible outcome was not worth the cost. But in every article, I think about you.

This sounds like a cliche, but it’s actually quite profound.
Fire provides energy and power; water provides stability. Combine the two, we get steam which creates movement, locomotion, revolution. Together, we move things forward.
